May 24, 2013 - 12:10 PM - by XboxMB News | Quote: |
A new PS4 ad in Europe provides further indication the continent can expect the console to arrive there this year. While Sony announced the PS4 was due "Holiday 2013" back at February's reveal event, the company declined to commit to which regions that window applied to. However, a new PS4 ad, first spotted in today's Metro newspaper in the UK, then later tweeted by PlayStation Europe, says the PS4 is "Coming 2013." Europeans have good reason to be cautious about a tentative window. The PS3 reached the continent in March 2007, having arrived in North America and Japan some four months prior - and that was via a last-minute delay, too. When asked if this confirmed the PS4 is coming to Europe this year, a Sony Computer Entertainment Europe representative told us, "We announced at the PlayStation Meeting event on February 20 that [the] PS4 would be coming in 2013... the adverts are simply re-stating that message." "More information about [the] PS4 and all PlayStation platforms will be announced at E3," he added.

May 24, 2013 - 12:10 PM - by XboxMB News | Quote: |
The patent application, which was filed last November and spotted by GamesIndustry International, reads: "Television viewing tends to be a passive experience for a viewer, without many opportunities for the viewer to engage or have interactive experiences with the presented content. "To increase interactive viewing and encourage a user to watch one or more particular items of video content, awards and achievements may be tied to those items of video content. "By tying the awards and achievements to particular items of video or advertising content, viewers may be encouraged to increase their viewership of the content, thus increasing advertising opportunities." Achievements could be dished out for watching a single event such as the Super Bowl or viewing an entire series of a show, it adds. Potential rewards include new avatar items, virtual money for a game, or even physical prizes. Achievements could also be tied to viewers performing specific Kinect actions while watching content, Microsoft said. At Tuesday's Xbox One reveal event, Marc Whitten, Microsoft's corporate vice president of Xbox Live, said that a new version of the online service will be "more powerful, more personal and more intelligent". The new Xbox Live will offer enhanced cloud functionality, improved matchmaking, new social features, background downloads, skill tracking and an expanded achievements system, Microsoft added.

May 24, 2013 - 12:10 PM - by XboxMB News | Quote: |
Microsoft may have unveiled their brand new Xbox One console but one thing it didn’t do is launch new domains for that trademarked name. Sure, users can always go to Xbox.com but about XboxOne.com? Or XboxOne.net? Well those don’t belong to Microsoft just yet, and the company is fighting to get them. Curious folks have always paid attention to Microsoft-registered domains so buying up XboxOne.com for example, would have ousted the name of the new console. Because they had to wait, Microsoft is now hurrying to register all the relevant domains for its Xbox One brand. And as such they have filed a complaint with the National Arbitration Forum over the domains XboxOne.com and XboxOne.net, both of which are currently owned by a UK resident. Microsoft generally has a lot of success when it comes to these kinds of disputes so there’s very little chance of things not going the way they want them to.

Xbox One will let users navigate and watch live TV from cable, telco or satellite set-top box fed through the console. However, TV integration features will be limited to the US at launch, Microsoft has confirmed. But a Sky spokesperson told Pocket-lint: "We enjoy a long track-record of innovating with Microsoft on the Xbox platform and will explore any future opportunities offered by Xbox One."Speaking in a wide-ranging Xbox One interview published this week, Phil Harrison, corporate vice president of Microsoft's Interactive Entertainment Business (IEB), told CVG: "TV is a very local thing as you know. We are committed to working with our existing and potential new partners to make sure that wherever you live we will deliver a great TV experience."We believe that the TV connectivity of Xbox One is a really magical part of the system and we're committed to making that amazing wherever you live. We know that TV is ultra local and we already have teams in place to work on that vision."Users will be able to find TV shows on Xbox One in three ways: by using voice and motion controls, through a personal favourites area, or via a trending section which shows what's popular with the Xbox community. "This is the beginning of truly intelligent TV," Yusuf Mehdi, senior vice president of Microsoft's IEB, claimed earlier this week.
