A peculiar bug just reared its ugly head in my game. I'm playing on my 360, with a ton of enchanted items that I made myself. Named them all and everything. Of note for this thread is the pair of daedric daggers that I created, Warrior's Bane and Wizard's Ruin. For some reason, Wizard's Ruin keeps losing its name; the weapon gets renamed "Daedric Dagger", although the enchantment remains. I would guess that the dagger's name is getting wiped, but I have no clue as to why.
It seems to be tied to the creation of an autosave. In two separate locations (Dead Crone Rock and Proudspire Manor), after entering an area, the dagger's name returned to the base name. When I noticed this, I left Dead Crone Rock for my home in Solitude to try a few things. Made a save right in front of the main door. Leaving the house with the dagger unequipped saw the name revert back. I kept it equipped, and walked out the door and back into the city -- the name got wiped. I dropped it out of my Favorites, kept it equipped, and walked out -- same thing occurred. Next, I removed Wizard's Ruin from my Favorites, and placed it on the weapon rack in the bedroom. Left, and walked right back in; the dagger's name remained Wizard's Ruin. So, I pulled it off of the rack, equipped it, and left the house. The dagger's name stayed the same -- no name reversion.
I then went about starting a fight with Jaree-Ra after improving a Daedric Mace that I think was enchanted (can't remember now). That's probably inconsequential, but, in the interest of full disclosure, there's the info. I reloaded the autosave outside of Proudspire Manor, and went back to Dead Crone Rock. And, soon came to find that the dagger had lost its name again somewhere along the way.
I've not seen something like this happen before. I can remake the dagger with the appropriate name, and hopefully not see that happen again. I'm not necessarily looking for a fix, though I did spend a good two hours searching for an editor that'll let me rename the dagger and see what happens. Maybe this information and the linked files will help somebody to better understand the game. Perhaps somebody at Bethesda will come across this.
I'm below a novice when it comes to analyzing or writing code in any real shape or form, so I can't be helpful there. But, I may be able to answer any questions anyone has. The linked save games lead directly into the bug, with 922 being the save inside of Proudspire Manor. If the saves interest a modder or anyone else, feel free to download; I've not gone to Bleak Falls Barrow, or spoken to Balgruuf yet, so there are no dragons in my game. All three saves were pulled via Horizon. With luck, this information will help someone somewhere. At worst, it was a boring read. Cheers, all, and thanks. http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?cvn4rk1b73f2n7d
