This eventual downfall is why I use a wall charger and only use the Play and charge cord for long continually use like Rubber banding.

Thats why i bought 2 wired controllers. They are better nicer and they are cheaper

You could also open up the battery on the controller and swap out the batteries for some better rechargable ones..
