Funny, I haven't heard a thing about saves not being read. I played the game for about 100 hours so far with no save problems whatsoever... doesn't mean it's not possible though.
But really, you have to keep in mind that the person who sends you a save would have done things differently in their playthrough so you might not know why things are happening the way they are. If I had a save from that point I'd upload it but mine are all completed games.
