Correct, once they have synced to Xbox LIVE, you can edit them but they do not change. Only you can see them, they do not overwrite the ones on the server.

hi just a little thought

most achievement websites have guides to make gaining them a little easier, they usualy tell you what achievements you can get (like extra achievements added to story lines etc..) it may take a little longer but peace of mind is worth it
