So i traded off my flashed dvd drive xbox for a chipped with FSD xbox from my friend, just recently bought a external HD have it formatted for fat32 was told just to plug it in and the xbox would see it. well needless to say it doesnt see it at all what am i doing wrong?. i am running 2.0.13604.0 after updates. Also just got a kinect for xmas and its asking me to update is it safe to??

Is it USB? If you plug it in and go to your Xbox settings, then storage, it should be detected there. Then all you have to do is format it. The problem is that you can only format 16 GB of the device's storage. There are other ways to utilize the whole device, though. You can take the actual HDD out of its casing and put it in an Xbox 360 HDD case and the Xbox will detect it as an Xbox 360 HDD. Then all you have to do is format it in the dashboard and it will let you use the whole HDD space.

And no, DO NOT UPDATE. It is probably a dashboard update which could blow an efuse on your system, rendering it broken. Only update your dashboard using the proper programs.
