A recent patent filing suggests that Sony is working on Kinect-like tech, possibly for use with future PlayStation software. As PlayStation Lifestyle reports, a patent was filed back in October 2011 for “real-time three-dimensional interactive environment using a depth sensing device”. The device also “includes obtaining depth values indicating distances from one or more physical objects in a physical scene to a depth sensing device.” Patents don’t always come to fruition, of course, but this could be something to bear in mind when dreaming up those PS4 theories.
If anything, it's a wiimote copy. Sony seems to like waiting for others to release tech, then making something similar a year or two later. They did the same with the six axis gimmick.

Sony already tried something similar and it looked like a freaking fairy wand, then xbox comes out with something better and they are successful because of it. Now all of a sudden Sony wants it too. Can't people just create original ideas?

Original ideas clearly have no place in today's world.
I myself think its great that Sony is going for a product to rival or surpass the Kinect. It's a smart business move. In my eyes the Playstation 3 has always been superior to the Xbox 360, and still is. I only own an Xbox 360 since a lot of my friends do. To be honest though, I have no care for motion gaming. It's not bad, but I find no particular interest in it.
