Default Mass Effect 3 Extended Cut DLC – A Second Chance to Save A Failed Ending

Quote:
After the major backlash from gamers concerning Mass Effect 3?s original endings, developers Bioware finally released the extended edition of each ending as a free download that consist of almost 1.9GB of data!

They are intended to give players a better insight as to what happens after the epic conclusion to an epic game and an epic series. The original endings sorely disappointed gamers and fans around the world because of their briefness and also lack of closure, failing to provide players with a satisfactory ending and leaving gamers clueless as to what happened to their relationships that they’d built up over 3 whole games!

Do the new endings do the Mass Effect fanbase service or do they just still fall short?

To start off, the whole entirely of the final section needs to be played again to get the most out of this extra DLC. That means trawling through London again and talking to all the characters again, battling through all the battles, yet again.

One plus of this DLC is that we finally know what happens to the majority of Shepards team mates as he and them team get hit by the Harbinger’s beam! Excellent.

Finally, when you reach the crucible, the dialogue between Shepard and the Catalyst has been majorly improved which allows you to prod further into the origins of the reapers and other specifics. Afterwards you’ll be presented with the options the player is still to make their usual choice, including a fourth decision which is to refuse to do anything. This new ending is the briefest and actually is the coolest choice to make, cause Shepard is the sort of guy who does things his way and in a sense provides the most clear cut of endings.

With the other three endings, the developers have expaned on what was originally there and you can see they have tried to provide a better insight as to how the war finishes depending on your final decision. You finally via screenshots and hear dialogue which explains what happens…wait…hear? Great…well are the endings much better? Well, they are better and do provide a better insight and you’ll be very happy to know what this time, your decisions do count so you’ll be informed on how your decisions affected other races and most importantly your friends.

These endings are well worth checking out if you’ve not already done so as you’ll finally see that your actions did have some consequences. They aren’t as well made as they could have or should have been but they’ve served their purpose and for that I am grateful!

Available now on PC and Xbox 360.

Available for PS3 from 4th July 2012.

The extended cut wasn't that good and just seemed half assed.

They didn't fix the plot, they added a plot hole, added a middle finger to the fans, and it just seemed lazy.

The original ending was like a serious knife wound to the stomach and the extended cut would be like a band aid for it.

Spacechild still exists and so does the idiotic 3 choice system where the middle one is completely ******ed (ROBOTS DON'T HAVE DNA), control seems creepy, and destroy still (by Bioware's perspective) seems to be bad (even though I would choose that every time)

Well being a serious ME fan i was extremely disapointed with all the first original three choices. Just seemed like you could be mainly good through till the end and still choose the renegade option. The ending should be SPECIFIC to your choices through the game not the last choice of the game. Sucked. I know there werent many endings for the last one either but it was nice to see if you were renegade then it would have that ending and you didnt get a choice on a sort of half hearted paragon ending.

I personally will not be getting this DLC for the reason that ME3 was a great game yet the endings just completely ruined it for me and if they wanted to add these in the first place then mention that they are not for everyone just shows that they are not looking to satisfy those who are hardcore fans. Why say its not for everyone when you want it to be. Just dont bring it out if thats not what they wanted to do in the first place. yeah 1.9gb is a lot of game, but it wont bring the HC fans back to just test and see if they liked it. no. just no.

I wanted to see how they would do the EC and I think that there are other endings depending on if you get any future DLC (like the next one is supposed to be where you get to recruit a reaper) and that is a terrible idea (both the future DLC and the way the EC could implement it).

After the failure that was Dragon Age 2, I did not get any DLC related to it as Bioware already destroyed a great game series. Now it seems I will be doing the same with Mass Effect with how ME3 was such a watered down version of its predecessors (MacGruffin, fetch missions, dialogue system, ending).

I honestly think I am done with Bioware.
They already killed 2 game series and ruined another by turning its focus to MMOs.

Maybe when people stop buying their product will be when they realize they need to reevaluate their roles as not just a company, but as artists...or EA will just close the studio.

-------------------
Also, everyone who has played ME3 by now probably knows of the "Shepard Breath" cutscene for Destroy. That cutscene STILL exists and wasn't explained through the EC

I personally would have loved the ending if they went with the indoctrination theory (Mass Effect 3 - Shepard's Indoctrination - YouTube), Bioware screwed there chances in winning me and possibly all of there fans back with this bulls***t Extended Cut and for that i will take it upon myself to avoid buying future games releases produced by Bioware does anyone else feel the same way?
