Thanks: 2,693 | | | EA: digital sales will eventually overtake boxed games Quote: |
In an interview with Reuters, Moore explained that while EA will move in the direction of digital sales as the market demands it, boxed software sales will continue as long as the market for it survives."There will come a point, whether it is two or three years from now, when we say 'we are doing more in digital media now than we are in physical media,' and it's clearly ... not far away," Moore said.Reuters points out that EA's expected packaged goods revenue for the fiscal year ending March 2013 is $2.6 billion, with digital products expected to bring in $1.7 billion, while its digital revenue increased by 55 percent in the first quarter of that year.Moore insisted that boxed media will stick around for a while, saying "we will never abandon physical media. As long as the consumer wants to buy something on a disc, we will be there to offer it."

Nothing beats coming back to your house after purchasing a new game, ripping of any packaging , looking at the manual and smelling that new game smell. Downloading a game just doesn't have the same feel to me.

So i would be screwed if it all went digital. It would feel like i was on dial up again!
Also if you look at those stats it says faster than 85% of GB. So theres your clue!

Thanks: 2,550 | | | Re: EA: digital sales will eventually overtake boxed games Well that was always going to be the case, everything is being digitalised. It's an agoraphobic's dream. CD's, DVD's and Books - all of which are or will be phased out by digital downloads. Hell you can even do all your shopping online now.
I'm all for digital downloads as it's an easy way to gain content rather than having to order it online or go to a shop. Although for that reason, it's also a bad thing which will have an adverse effect on the generation of tomorrow. Obesity is a big problem today, how is it going to be in a few years when you can order everything and anything at the click of a button? People will be discouraged from going out to the shops, which in turn will increase obesity in my opinion.
Not only that but, it will have an effect on jobs and businesses. It's happening already, but smaller businesses are going out of business because they can't compete with online retailers. So in reality you have to look to see if it's a good thing or not. Only time will tell i guess. | | | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
