Here is a picture of the same Master Chief action figure shown at the toy fair, but now he is holding what seems to be the Halo 3 assault rifle?!?!?

I think you may be confused with the BR and DMr rifles that were switched when reach came out. The assault rifle hasn't changed or been replaced so I don't get how this really is that big of news but I guess thanks anyways

No, I am not at all confused, my friend, the BR obviously was not in reach, this is actually big news because it shows that Halo 4 trailers and reveals are on the way. Also if you haven't realized yet, Master Chief's armor has some how changed during cyro sleep.

Those figures with the question mark are probably the other spartans if you read the halo books you will know that dr.hasley is stuck in a slip space(place im not sure what it was called origionally) with like 5 other spartans rangeing from old to semi new models.(of spartans master chief being the latest).

hopefully they have the older model BR and somewhere during the campaign he gets the latest modeled br it makes the game more realistic.

I'm guessing you did not read the small sign right next to Master Chief.
The timeline suggests that the BR will be back in Halo 4. Reach was Pre-Halo 1. The weapons have since "advanced." I would assume that all weapons will take off from Halo 3.
