Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg
  • IPS Monitor - The backbone of any good graphics computer, you'll need something that accurately displays colors, with a good contrast ratio, and this one fits the build wonderfully
  • Solid quad core CPU which will rip through render ques, 8GB of RAM, and a powerful CUDA GPU to help out with rendering.
  • Good case, and PSU
  • SSD for all the software you'll be installing on them, launches fast and amazing boots speed.
  • 2TB HDD, plenty of storage.

Wouldn't he want a i7 for the hyperthreads? Most people who go into graphic design will video edit.

Solid State Drive.
Super fast read and write speeds. Starts Windows 7 in like 6 seconds flat.

Well he'll want a solid CUDA GPU which is where the 560 ti comes in, and the 2600k or Ivy equivalent just really isn't in the budget. He could drop the SSD, but that's something I'd definitely invest in. Probably would save him more time overall.

wtf, i7 is overkill like ****. You'd be fine with quadcore or i5

Came up with this. I think that a i5 would drop the price, along with a 64 GB SSD, cheaper MB, and a smaller PSU, but this build will deliver.
Newegg.com - Once You Know, You Newegg
Thor's build is also a good idea because the monitor is a good upgrade, but you're sacrificing performance. I would buy the monitor later if you have a good one now, but the build is up to you.

1. I'd ditch that SSD 4K read/write are way more important for SSDs for his uses. Plus those speeds on the Corsair are only in things like ATTO, you'll never see that real world.

2. Quality of speed. He wont' be able to make as good of content without a proper monitor. If he is serious about this (which he should be considering the money he's dropping), he'll want a monitor that can accurately display colors.

Macbooks are good for graphic design, and you can get a good one for under $1100.
