In two years and nine months, XboxMB has grown from nothing to the most well-known Xbox 360 modding site on the Internet. Anybody who has modded games for their console in the past 3 years has, without a doubt, downloaded Horizon for themselves and shared its functionality with their friends and fellow online buddies who probably now hate them for having special weapons, unlimited ammo, and god mode in online games

It has truly been one of the greatest learning experiences of our lives: to develop an application that's used by millions of people around the world and to manage a community that is now one million members strong. Horizon is downloaded by 100,000+ unique people each month, and that number is growing day-by-day!

Below you will find a list of people who have taken time out of their lives to help shape this community into what it is today. But they are not the only ones who have to be thanked! Everybody who has participated in discussions on XboxMB or has contributed to the 360 scene, on any site, in any way has, altogether, shaped the scene into the abysmal pool of technological knowledge that we all have a common desire for.

Microsoft confirms day one update must be downloaded for Xbox One
Jun 19, 2013 - 9:50 PM - by XboxMB News
Quote:
Microsoft revealed earlier today that it's bowing to pressure from some parts of the gaming community and changing its policies regarding used games and mandatory internet connectivity on the Xbox One. While these changes will appease some, they certainly won't please everyone, with some features being dropped as a result of the revised policies. While the requirement for the console to check in online at least once every 24 hours has been dropped, Xbox One buyers will still need to connect the web the first time they use their console. IGN spoke with Microsoft's Marc Whitten earlier today, who confirmed that users will need to download and install a required update at first launch. "There was always going to be a day one update on the console," said Whitten, "and that's frankly just a difference in manufacturing schedules versus software schedules. We just wanted to be clear that that hasn't changed, that you have to go online to get the software for day one, then you wouldn't have to be connected after that." While Whitten didn't reveal details of just what the update might include, or how large it might be, he did say that any web connection will do. In response to an enquiry about whether users will be able to download their update through smartphone tethering, he replied: "Sure. Any way that you can get connectivity to the Live service would enable that to come down to the console." He added that Microsoft considers that that won't be an issue for the majority of customers: "We believe that most people, frankly, are

PS4 showcased on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon
Jun 19, 2013 - 6:50 PM - by XboxMB News

PS4 was the focus of the second night of 'Video Game Week' on Tuesday's episode of US chat show Late Night With Jimmy Fallon.Mark Cerny, lead system architect on the console, used the four-and-a-half-minute slot to show off the console and offer a hands-on demo of Knack, the PS4 launch game he's directing.Knack is a story-driven family game in which mankind turns to an unlikely hero to protect them from invading goblins. Knack is only three feet tall, bt he grows and transforms based on the items he picks up and smashes in levels.Cerny described it as "kind of a mash-up between a Pixar-style animated movie and a character action game".He also said of PS4: "It's the most powerful videogame console ever made. We were targeting about ten times the performance of any previous system."

GameStop 'applauds Microsoft' for Xbox One DRM revision
Jun 19, 2013 - 6:30 PM - by XboxMB News
Quote:
GameStop has "applauded" Microsoft for ditching its Xbox One used game DRM policies and mandatory online checks.Microsoft today announced the complete withdrawal of the Xbox One's controversial restrictions on used games and the requirement of an internet connection for license checks once every 24 hours."GameStop welcomes today's announcement from Microsoft about changes in functionality for its next-generation console, the Xbox One," said a GameStop rep in an official statement to Polygon in response to the announcement."This is great news for gamers and we applaud Microsoft for understanding consumers and the importance of the pre-owned market," they added. The console's previously proposed DRM measures would have restricted the sale of used games between gamers, and would allegedly have saw Microsoft and publishers take a cut of profits made from used game sales at retail. This would have had huge implications for major organizations like GameStop, which rely heavily on profits from the used games market. But GameStop had said in May that it would commit to support of Xbox One despite used game policy concerns. "I think what is important to note is that all three of the console companies that have launched have now come back and they say, 'I realise the value of the buy-sell-trade model,' and they have built that into their new consoles moving forward," said GameStop president Tony Bartel at the time.

Xbox One loses 'family game sharing' following DRM policy revision
Jun 19, 2013 - 5:40 PM - by XboxMB News
Quote:
Microsoft's major Xbox One DRM policy revisions announced today come with one significant drawback - the loss of a previously-proposed 'family game sharing' feature. One of Microsoft's more popular announcements for Xbox One's digital policy was the ability for a player to designate 10 'family' members' accounts, all of whom would then have full access to that players' games library. This feature would have been governed by the console's tight control over game license ownership via strict DRM policies. But with the relaxing of the console's DRM control, the firm has also withdrawn plans for the game sharing feature, among other benefits.Microsoft's president of interactive entertainment business Don Mattrick explained in a statement, "The sharing of games will work as it does today, you will simply share the disc. Downloaded titles cannot be shared or resold."Marc Whitten, VP of Xbox Live clarified to Kotaku, "There's a few things we won't be able to deliver as a result of [the DRM policy changes]."One of the things we were very excited about was 'wherever we go my games are always with me.' Now, of course your physical games won't show up that way. The games you bought digitally will. You'll have to bring your discs with you to have your games with you," he confirmed."Similarly, the sharing library [is something] we won't be able to deliver at launch," said Whitten.Microsoft today officially ditched Xbox One's previously proposed and hugely controversial used game DRM policies and the need for the console to log in
